This unit went up very easily. The liner protects the surrounding wood from not only splatters, but the possibility of grease fires. I wouldn't recommend an installation without it for the latter reason. Yes, it's noisy, but no more so than any range hood fan, which usually conks out within the first year of use. The difference is this one has a much much stronger fan and sucks the cooking odors out of the house very quickly. We've found the low setting is plenty. Someone mentioned the lights were placed at the back of the unit so only the back of the stove was lit. If that's the case, you've installed it backwards. It's easy to do and we almost did the same thing until realized it couldn't possibly be right. Don't use conventional 40 watt candelabra bulbs. Unless you only want a nightlight, they're useless. Spring for the LED candelabra ones. They provide incredible lighting with no added heat around the bulb area. I would definitely recommend this unit.
